GREENVILLE, Maine – According to a recent press release the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) will hold two open house-educational outreach sessions later this month in Greenville. The meetings will be held at the Center for Moosehead History, formerly the Community House, located at 6 Lakeview St.
LURC officials will be available to speak to visitors about permitting and compliance matters as well as answer questions about land-use regulations.
Two sessions will be held to accommodate res idents and their schedules. The open house sessions will be held:
3-5 p.m., and at 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, Center for Moosehead History, 6 Lakeview St., Greenville, ME.
“The sessions and open house are not related to any specific topic, but instead will consist of a brief presentation by LURC staff regarding an overview of the commission and its rules,” Scott Rollins, LURC Permitting & Compliance Division manager, said.
The presentation then will be followed by an open question-and-answer period along with a chance for the public to ask one–on-one questions to LURC staff regarding more specific questions, Rollins said.
Created in 1971, LURC serves as the planning and zoning board for the state’s unorganized areas and coastal islands, as well as numerous towns and plantations that elect not to have local land use control. The commission’s jurisdiction encompasses approximately 10.4 million acres or roughly half the size of Maine.
LURC consists of two divisions: the Planning Division, which primarily revises the rules and regulations, updates zoning maps, processes some of the large-scale project applications, such as grid-scale wind power and concept plans, and updates the Comprehensive Land Use Plan; and the Permitting and Compliance Division, which reviews and acts upon permit applications, conducts compliance activities, and enforces the rules and regulations.
These sessions should be most helpful for the following individuals or groups within LURC jurisdiction: landowners, especially those who may be thinking of conducting activities on their property in the near future; land managers; potential buyers or sellers of property; real estate professionals or others involved in real estate transactions; contractors; or anyone else with an interest in LURC and its rules.
The sessions will be attended by staff from LURC’s Greenville Regional Office along with the Permitting & Compliance Division manager.
