Mark's son, Josh, ponders the loss of his father's business. The Wharf in Hallowell has hosted many benefits for various causes. On September 20th they will host yet another. This upcoming benefit is for local artisan and musician, Mark McKelvey, whose business and livelihood were stripped from him by an intentionally set fire in the building he occupied on Water Street in Gardiner. Cork Cove Furniture had been in business for 15 months and specialized in custom woodworking and furniture restoration.

Mark said he lost everything in the fire and, faced with a downturn in the local economy for his services, he could not afford insurance. Totaling thousands of dollars, Mark lost a rough lumber mill, a finish sanding machine, table saws, a spray booth and most of his hand tools. To make matters worse, he also said that he had just taken out a six month loan to help him get by until either business improved or provide him with some time to look around at other business opportunities. Mark is currently helping out his brother with his business, hiddenequity.com.

This is not only a great opportunity to show your support for Mark and his family in their time of need, it is also going to be an event with a fantastic entertainment line-up. Bands on tap for this event so far include:

The Boneheads
Elderberry Jam (Mark’s Band)
The Rolling Black Outs
The Returnables
Erik Glocker Band
Rock ‘m Sock ‘m Robots
You can bet plenty more musicians will join in

Plus there will be prizes and raffles

Please join us at the Wharf and give what you can to help Mark through this horrible experience. Donations will be accepted at the door.
