Will Brinegar assumes the helm
SPECTRUM GENERATIONS, the Central Maine Area Agency on Aging, recently held their 37th Annual Meeting on November 19th, 2009 at their newly renovated Muskie Community Center in Waterville. Attendees included the current and in-coming Board of Directors, Senior Advisory Council members, Local Advisory Council members from the seven Spectrum Generations Community Centers, invited guests and staff.
Sworn in as the as the new Chairman of the Board was Will Brinegar, replacing Jon Huntington who had served as Chair for two terms. Other officers sworn in at the Annual Meeting were Jeffrey Johnson, Vice Chair; Herbert “Sam” Birch, Treasurer; and Lou Abbotoni, Secretary.
New members include Lou Abbotoni, Robert Wyllie, and Paul Cyr. Incumbent Board Members are Harold “Hank” Goodwin, Christine Savage, Jonathan Huntington, Judith Bauman, Matthew Janicki, Dick Colburn, and Cheryl Arute.
Leaving the Board of Directors after serving two consecutive terms were Holly Ingraham and Christine Gifford who were recognized for their outstanding support and commitment to the vision and mission of Spectrum Generations. The late Wayne McMullin and the late William “Bill” Gerencer were recognized for their outstanding service and dedication to Spectrum Generations and the Muskie Community Center.
Julie T. Fralich, the Program Director of Disability and Aging at the Muskie School of Public Service, spoke on the “Coming of Age of Aging Services: National Trends and Local Solutions.” This included an overview of federal initiatives to promote aging services as part of the national policy agenda and the changing role of local aging service providers in meeting the needs of the growing number of older adults. Ms. Fralich also addressed emerging trends in the organization of Area Agencies on Aging, the professionalization of services and staff, and opportunities for community partnerships and engagement.
