With Valentine’s Day rapidly approaching, love is definitely in the air… at least judging by the shop windows downtown. Themes of romance are everywhere, with an underlying theme of pride in our beautiful downtown evidenced by the care and creativity put into the window displays. Take a walk downtown, pick up a Valentine for your sweetheart, and see for yourself!

Darrell is a music educator from Gorham, and in addition to his jazz performances, he is much sought-after as a piano accompanist for everything from chamber singers to concert bands. Explore the Historic Peterson Canal in Bath
Peterson Canal Area hikers are invited to meet for the annual hike of the Peterson Canal, built around 1790 to connect Merrymeeting Bay with the New Meadows River, bypassing the strong currents of the Chops and facilitating downstream transportation of logs.On February 7, the six-mile scenic hike is only possible when the water is frozen and will take approximately 2.5 hours. Meet across from the boat launch to the New Meadows Lake on Old Brunswick Road in Bath. Participants are urged to bring skis or snow shoes, depending on the snow cover. Transportation will be organized to allow hikers to return to the starting point. For more information and to confirm that conditions are appropriate contact Ed Benedikt at 442-0445. This event is put on by the New Meadows Lake Association with support from KELT and Friends of Merrymeeting Bay.

Studio Theatre of Bath proudly presents Sentimental Journey performing “Nostalgic Musical Memories” – Chocolate Church Arts Center, 804 Washington Street
Break up the winter blues with a toe-tapping evening or afternoon at the Chocolate Church in Bath, sure to stir up memories from long ago. Sentimental Journey features music from the 1930s and beyond done in exquisite harmony and boasts musical classics such as Stardust, Nearness of You, Georgia on my Mind, My Funny Valentine, Sentimental Journey, Ain’t Misbehavin’ ,Tuxedo Junction, Java Jive and several popular Andrews Sisters’ tunes, to name a few. The group welcomes in the 50s and 60s with Cry, No Not Much, Moon River, Volare, At the Hop, several selections from West Side Story, a Beach Boy Medley and many more. Whether sung a’capella or with accompaniment of piano and drums, Sentimental Journey’s Nostalgic Musical Memories is a delightful evening sure to dazzle audiences in this locally well-known show which always has audiences begging for an encore!
Sentimental Journey’s, Nostalgic Musical Memories runs February 5 through 7 and February 12 through 14. Spend Valentine’s Day weekend with your sweetheart at the Chocolate Church Arts Center. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30PM and Sunday performances are matinees at 2:00PM. Tickets are $13 for seniors, $15 for adults. Group rates are available.
Nostalgic Musical Memories is directed by Jan Crosson, and musical direction is by Courtney Babbidge. Local comedian John Ater is not-to-be missed as the master of ceremonies at the Valentine’s weekend performances.

Sagadahoc Preservation presents “Groundhog Day” at the Dreamland Theater, 880 Washington Street
Throughout the winter we will be showing films on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month in the Winter Street Center, and February is Romance month! Join us February 11th for “Groundhog Day” with Bill Murray and Andi McDowell.
We have chairs, but are encouraging you to bring a beach chair if you prefer that to an upright one. Label it and you can leave it for the winter in the Sanctuary! And if you are so inclined, bring a picnic supper!

Bath Antiques Show, Bath Middle School, 6 Old Brunswick Road
There will be a Bath Antiques Show Sunday, February 14, at the Bath Middle School from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Fifty New England dealers will be on hand with wonderful, fresh merchandise. This is a great event to visit on Valentine’s Day and maybe find the perfect gift for your sweetheart. Fifty New England dealers will be on hand with wonderful antiue and vintage merchandise. Included for sale will be jewelry, furniture, paintings, porcelain, pottery, rugs, sterling, textiles, and much more. Remember, antiques are “green”, so purchase something that has been loved before!
The show is easy to find; just follow the show signs leading from Rte. 1 at the Congress Ave. exits in Bath, coming from the north or south. A delicious lunch menu will be available. There is an admission charge of $4.00 or $3.50 with ad or article.
