Open to all amateur and professional artists 18 years and older living in Maine, including part-time residents and college students. All entries must be original and completed in 2009 or 2010. Work copied from magazines, artwork by another artist or photos not taken by the artist will not be considered original. The entries cannot have been shown in one of our previous Maine Open Juried Art Shows. All media of fine art are acceptable. Prints must be hand pulled. Crafts, photography and sculpture will not be accepted.

JUDGES
Isabelle Smeall is the Anne Lunder Leland Curatorial Fellow at the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville, Maine. She has also worked at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas. She received her B.A. in Art (Painting) and Art History from Yale University.
Jane Bianco is the Curatorial Assistant to Senior Curator Michael Komanecky at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. Jane has curated three print exhibitions and is currently working on preparing two textile shows. She attended Boston University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison,earning a BFA (Graphic Design) and M.A. (Art History, with focus upon material culture).
Born in Waterville, Bruce Hutchison received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design in 1980. After graduation, he returned to Maine and settled in Portland where he has been a freelance illustrator for 30 years. Some of Bruce’s clients include AT&T, Busch Gardens,
Doubleday, GQ, L.L.Bean, National Geographic, NBC, Timex, Williams Sonoma, and Wired.
SHOW INFORMATION

The entries cannot have been shown in one of our previous Maine Open Juried Art Shows. All media of fine art are acceptable. Prints must be hand pulled. Crafts, photography and sculpture will not be accepted.
ENTRY SPECIFICATIONS
All work must be suitably framed and wired for hanging at the time of submission. No saw-tooth hooks, please. Work will be rejected if the mat or the frame is poorly made or damaged. Unframed canvas will be accepted if suitably finished with no visible staples on wraparound edges. Except for oils and acrylics without mats, work must be protected by glass or plastic/acrylic glazing.
Maximum width including the frame may not exceed 45″; maximum height may not exceed 55″.
A 3″x 5″ card must be attached to the back of each piece of work with the following information: title, media, name, address and phone number, category and the price of the artwork or NFS if not for sale.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE NO COMMISION FOR ANY SALES; HOWEVER, THERE WILL BE A 5% FEE FOR CREDIT CARD SALES. Please price your work accordingly.
Please complete the enclosed Painting Labels legibly, as this information will be used for the brochure and exhibition labels. Do NOT mail the Painting Labels with your entry form. Please PRE-CUT them and bring them along with your paintings to the The Center, 93 Main Street in Downtown Waterville.
Refunds will NOT be provided for entries that are rejected due to noncompliance with these specifications.

ENTRY FEE – An entry fee of $25.00 enables each artist to submit two entries. Make checks payable to Waterville Main Street and send by March 20 to: Waterville Main Street, MOJAS-Entries, 177 Main St., Waterville, Maine 04901. Entry forms postmarked after March 20 will be subject to a $30.00 entry fee. Fees are non-refundable unless the entry response is fewer than 50 artists and forces cancellation of the show. In that event, checks will be returned. In case of a storm forecast for entry day, paintings will be received at The Center on Friday, March 26, 6-7 PM.
DELIVERY OF ENTRIES – Bring your entries with the completed and pre-cut Painting Labels to the The Center, 93 Main Street, Waterville on Saturday, March 27 between 9:30 and 11:00 AM. Judging will begin at 12:00 noon. Work declined for the exhibit must be picked up between 3:30 and 4:30 PM the same day. Declined work will not be stored. Friends may collect work for you with written permission. Work selected to hang in the show must remain in the show until it closes on April 10 – No Exceptions. Work must be picked up on Saturday, April 11 between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Waterville Opera House, Waterville Main Street and Waterville Area Art Society will NOT be liable for artwork not picked up. Work sold during the show must remain hanging until April 10.
SHOW OPENING – An opening night reception will be held at the Waterville Opera House Dance Studio, 93 Main Street, 3rd Floor on Thursday, April 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Refreshments will be served. We encourage you to come and bring your families and friends. The show will be open to the public and will receive advanced publicity in the newspapers. Award presentations will be made at 7:00 PM and the winning artists will be recognized. It is our hope that each participating artist will attend this opening reception.

A show program with the award results and a complete list of the artists in the show will be available during the show or sent on request to anyone who includes a SASE with the entry form. If extra copies of this prospectus are needed, this form may be copied and passed on to your artist friends.
