Maine native, singer and guitarist, Jim Gallant, performs on Wednesday, August 4 at noon at Lively Lunches, Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center’s outdoor series. Jim performs a wide variety of music all over New England. He is known for his talented acoustic guitar skills and vocals. He can play a variety of music genres including folk, classical, traditional and more. “A Homestead favorite, Jim is an extraordinarily talented guitarist.” — Homestead Bakery Coffeehouse.
As a songwriter Fulks is difficult to define. Many of his compositions are silly, funny or spoof songs, while others are serious country songs. One album, 2001′s Couples in Trouble comes off more as an experimental rock album than as country. A good example of the alternative nature of some of his work is the song Godfrey (“the sickly, unemployed, amateur children’s magician”) on the compilation album for children The Bottle Let Me Down.

Mike Doughty (“looking At The World From The Bottom Of A Well “, “I Hear Bells”, and “Busting Up a Starbucks”), is an American Indie and Alternative singer/song-writer and former lead singer for the jazzy/electronic, not-quite-mainstream band Soul Coughing. He now has a strong and flourishing solo career, and has since returned to his acoustic roots on his latest disc, Sad Man, Happy Man (2009).

Sarah Blacker (from Boston) stuns listeners when she tells them she’s a beginner at this. She awes them when she belts out soulful bluesy and jazzy tones while standing at a mere 5’3″ tall. She impresses them when admitting that she used to be a full-time Music Therapist for children with special needs, and she connects with them when she proudly announces that she is following her dreams, and so shouldn’t every single one of them.
Lively Lunches are fun performances on three Wednesdays in August from noon to 1 p.m. at the mini-park next to Johnson Hall, 280 Water St., Gardiner. There is no charge for admission due to the generosity of local businesses. This year’s series sponsor is Key Bank and show supporters are Gardiner Federal Credit Union, The Therapy Zone and Janet Slade State Farm Insurance.
