As I noted in an email to you earlier this week, the “Jacob’s Ladder” staircase that connects Neal and Robinson streets had to be removed by the City because of unsafe conditions. It had been cordoned off from public use for a few months after a visit to the site revealed it was in disrepair. I have confirmed with Code Enforcement Officer David Cichowski that the quotes received to replace the stairway – between $8,000 - $19,000 – were essentially just to replace the existing structure and would not necessarily comply with current stair codes or ADA requirements.
