The Maine Women’s Policy Center team (staff and board members) will be hiking the Kennebec River Rail Trail for MaineShare’s annual Hike and Bike on September 2. These “smaller footprint” Hike and Bike events are taking place across the State this summer. Your support will benefit the Maine Women’s Policy Center’s work for Maine women and girls.

The fall teams of Cony and Gardiner High Schools are showing their support for the fight against cancer. In an effort to raise awareness and funds for cancer treatment and support, the field hockey, football and soccer teams are hosting the second annual “Drive Out Cancer Challenge” here in Gardiner at the high school on West Hill Rd.

I have been around long enough in the journalism business to have witnessed many tragedies of global proportion. Both at home and abroad, human suffering has led to huge outpourings of assistance in kind and monetarily from the nations of the world and through individual contributions. Floods, famines, disease, and social unrest have been met head-on with help from international aid groups and religious organizations and others to the tune of many millions upon millions of dollars.
